Bio-Identical Hormones

"Replacing low levels as we age is a powerful option, to not replace and potentially age even faster is also an option." - Dr. Brian Martin

Hormones do not have to be scary or mysterious, they are essential to not only surviving but enjoying a higher quality of life. In the field of optimal aging medicine, physicians prefer bio-identical hormones whenever hormones are prescribed. We understand that when it comes to the body, it is better to use the genetic duplicate of a hormone, which has already been recognized as safe.

Before bio-identical hormones, synthetic hormones were traditionally the only option available. The issue with synthetic hormones is that they are similar to the type genetically found in the body, but are made to be different to allow for patenting. In fact, in some cases they are very different, which could potentially be an obstacle to our cells’ optimal response. Because of the differences in structure, synthetic hormones have been linked to unintentional side effects and can act as a toxin or burden to the body.

Safe hormone replacement involves using the bio-identical form of hormones, (not synthetic drugs made to look like human-made hormones). Bio-identical hormones have the exact same molecular structure as the hormones naturally produced by the human body. These hormones fit their own receptor sites (cell doors) and are not foreign to the human body like synthetic hormones.

Our doctors customize prescriptions to the individual, as no two persons’ needs are the same. The main hormones involved in bio-identical therapy are; testosterone and human growth hormone (HGH) for men, and estrogen, progesterone, thyroid, testosterone, and HGH for women. Most are plant-derived and are made by special compounding pharmacists.
