Hay Fever? Allergies? Tired and can’t think? Problems sleeping?

Sublingual immunotherapy is an alternative way to treat allergies without injections!!.

Dr. Kelly Farnsworth uses small doses of an allergen under the tongue to boost tolerance to the allergy and reduce symptoms. This is the basis of SIT therapy. According to a 2009 World Allergy Organization (WAO) paper, SIT is widely accepted and used in many countries around the world.

How Is Treatment Administered?

Dr Farnsworth uses allergy testing to confirm each patients sensitivities. Once this is determined, a customized allergen extract is prepared in drop form and taken orally.  Drops are placed under the tongue for one to two minutes and then swallowed. They are taken two to three times daily with recommendations that therapy is continued for three to five years to develop a lasting immunity. Dr Farnsworth states “most of our patients notice major improvement in their symptoms within three months to one year after beginning therapy”

Is Sublingual Immunotherapy Effective and Safe?

Most clinical trials and surveys published over at least 20 years show that SIT is relatively safe and effective for the treatment of rhinitis and asthma caused by common allergens such as dust and dust mites, grass, weeds, ragweed, dog and cat dander, and tree pollens. As of June 2009, of 60 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies of SIT, the vast majority showed positive results in treating the red, itchy eyes caused by pollen during hay fever season.

In addition, it has benefit for children with mild atopic dermatitis (eczema) and is currently being studied for its potential in treating food allergies. International studies reveal that SIT can be safe for children under age 5 and may be a preferred method for controlling allergy symptoms compared with injection therapy.
